In November 2014, 70% of the Newport Beach voters overwhelmingly defeated Measure Y, the General Plan Amendment that would have increased development primarily in the Newport Center/Fashion Island area with all its accompanying, traffic, congestion, noise and pollution.
The City’s continuing approval of development projects and exceptions allowing increased height limits and density, in spite of Measure Y’s defeat, shines a light on the work that still needs to be done, covering a much broader scope than Measure Y opponents had envisioned.
Like the Phoenix, a new Political Action Committee is rising to meet this need: “Line in the Sand.”
Line in the Sand PAC believes change is inevitable but change should benefit all of us, not just a select few. We will be vigilant in working to protect our town and all that makes it so special to those who call it home. We will engage voters and City leaders in a conversation about these issues. We will monitor new projects, zoning code exceptions and amendments to our voter-approved General Plan. We will advocate for Our Town.
